National Education Policy 2020
-This is the first new education policy in 34 years
-A panel headed by former ISRO chief K. Kasturirangan submitted a draft in December 2018
-which was made public and opened for feedback after the Lok Sabha election in May 2019.
-New Education Policy was launched on Wednesday, July 29, 2020
-Union Ministers for Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Prakash Javadekar and Human Resource Development (HRD) and Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, made the announcement on the NEP- 2020.
-The NEP 2020 aims at making “India a global knowledge superpower”
Targets of NEP 2020
-Universalization from ECCE to Secondary Education by 2030
-Attaining Foundational Learning & Numeracy Skills through National Mission by 2025
-100% GER in Pre-School to Secondary Level by 2030
-Teachers to be prepared for assessment reforms by 2023
-Inclusive & Equitable Education System by 2030
-Board Exams to test core concepts and application of knowledge
-Every Child will come out of School adept in at least one Skill
-Common Standards of Learning in Public & Private Schools
Policies & Changes
-The name of the Ministry of Human Resource Development has been changed to the Ministry of Education (Siksha Mantralaya)
-RTE (Right to Education Act.) has been extended from Class 8th to Class 12th
-The proposal of National Academic Credit Bank (NACB) has been recognized in the new education policy.
-Instead of exams being held every year, school students will sit only for three - at Classes 3, 5 and 8.
-Students will begin classes on coding as well as vocational activities from Class 6 onwards.

HECI- Higher Education Council of India
-NHERC- National Higher Education Regulating Council for teacher education & higher education
-NAC- National Accreditation Council for recognition the higher institutions.
-HEGC- Higher Education Grants Council for financial grants to the universities & colleges.
-GEC- General Education Council for Graduate attributes & general Education
Language
-The new education policy will focus on multiple language education systems. Teachers have to teach not only in English but also in all the regional languages of India.
-The new education policy has 22 languages.
-Medium of instruction up till grade 5 to 8 will be home language/ mother-tongue/ local language
-‘The Languages of India’ a fun project/ activity on to be taken by every student
-3 languages to be taught will be decided by state/UT
-All classical languages will be widely available in schools as options
Higher Education
-The NEP 2020 proposes a 4 year undergraduate programme with multiple exit options to give students flexibility.
-A multi-disciplinary bachelor’s degree will be awarded after completing 4 years of study.
-Students exiting after two years will get a diploma
-those leaving after 12 months will be have studied a vocational/professional course.
-M. Phil (Master of Philosophy) courses are to be discontinued.

-Bal Bhavan Strengthening/setting -to partake in art -related, career -related, and play -related activities
-Samajik Chetna Kendras to promote social, intellectual, and voluntary activities
-Setting up State School Standards Authority(SSSA)
-Development of School Quality Assessment and Accreditation Framework (SQAAF) by SCERT & NCERT
-Periodic ‘health check-up’ of the overall system through a sample-based National Achievement Survey (NAS)

NTA testing for admission to B.Ed.

-1 year B.Ed after Completing P.G/M.A
-2 Year B.Ed after Completing U.G/B.A
-4 Year B.Ed after Completing 12th Class
New and Comprehensive National Curriculum Framework for Teacher Education (by 2021)
National Higher Education Regulatory Council (NHERC), to function as single point regulator for higher education sector including teacher education
Teacher Eligibility Tests (TETs) for all teachers across Foundational, Preparatory, Middle and Secondary stage in both public and private schools
National Center for Performance Assessment
Setting-up of National Center for Performance Assessment, Review and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic development (PARAKH)
Objectives of PARAKH
● Setting norms, standards and guidelines for assessment and evaluation
● Guiding the State Achievement Survey (SAS)
● Conducting the National Achievement Survey (NAS)
● Monitoring achievement of Learning Outcomes in the country
